Pastor Lem Johnson, Jr. was born in Indianola, Mississippi on December 1, 1934. He was the first born of the late Lemon and Viola Ross-Johnson. He was the first son of nine.
Elder Johnson accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord at a young age. He stated true to his commitment to Christ. He pastored from 1975-2000. Serving: Spring Hill - Tylertown, MS; Lucas Tabernacle, Prentiss, MS; Temple - Oakvale, MS; Wilderness - Hazlehurst, MS; Christ Temple - Tougaloo, MS; Vicksburg Church - Vicksburg, MS; and Sweet Home - Pelahatchie, MS.
He finished high school at Breisch High School in Lealand, MS. After high school, he moved to St. Louis, MO with parents and siblings. He received his undergraduate, master’s, and specialist degrees from Jackson State University.
On June 24, 1962, he was united in holy matrimony to Jannie Ballard, in St. Louis, MO. To this union, one child was born, a son: Min. Lemzel Ballard Johnson.
Pastor Lem Johnson departed from this life Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at UMMC. He leaves to carry on his legacy his wife, Jannie; son, Lemzel (Trinita) of Decatur, AL; four grandchildren: Trizel D., Zarya Z., Lemzel B., Jr.; and Zavier Z. Lem Johnson, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Lem Johnson. Sr.; his mother, Viola Johnson; one brother, Willie James Johnson; and one sister, Beatrice Ross. His memories and legacy will be forever cherished by one brother: Rev. David (Lori) Johnson, Kansas, MO; five sisters: Louvenia Bassett, St. Louis, MO; Mary Alice (Rev. Albert) Randolph, St. Louis, MO; Annie Mae White (Rev. Dewitt), St. Louis, MO; and Veola Hopkins, Kansas City, MO; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones, and friends.
A Family Hour for Pastor Lem Johnson, Jr. will begin on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Peoples Funeral Home, 886 North Farish Street, Jackson, Mississippi from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be at Christ Temple Church of Christ (Holiness) U.S.A., 845 North Lamar Street, Jackson, Mississippi on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with his Final Resting Place at Ballard Family Cemetery, 927 Robinson Springs Road, Madison, MS.
