Mamie Sherman departed from her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
She was born February 9, 1948 in Anguilla, Mississippi, to the late Stanley and Willie Mae Sherman. After graduating from Henry Weathers High School, she continued her education in nursing school in Memphis, Tennessee. Later, she moved to Greenville, Mississippi where she began a long-term career in management before her eventual retirement.
Mamie had an unmatched work ethic and found joy in many things. Among those was a love of reading. It was a passion she ignited in and passed on to both of her daughters who recall with fondness their childhood summer visits to the Greenville Public Library.
More than anything, Mamie had a love for God and was an especially giving person. She filled the stomachs and fed the souls of those fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of her renowned home cooking. She was a comfort to very special friends and neighbors of hers, regularly visiting and helping to provide for their needs. Her kindness was not limited to people as evidenced by the occasional neighborhood stray who found both a quick bite to eat as well as solace in her backyard. There are countless stories, told and untold, of her selflessness and kindness. Her open heart will be her enduring legacy.
Mamie is a part of a very large family that will miss her dearly. Left to remember her are her two daughters, Courtney Sherman and Jacqueline Christina Sherman of Brandon, MS; three sisters, Mary W. Sherman of Chicago, IL and Eloise (Johnny) McPherson and Essie (Timothy) Moncure of Jackson, MS; three brothers, Charles Sherman and Stanley Sherman of Anguilla, MS and Will Sherman of Las Vegas, NV.; and a host of relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.
