Obituary

Mrs. Willie Mae Johnson Hines Stevenson departed this life early Sunday morning December 5, 2021 from the Baptist Hospital in Jackson Mississippi surrounded by her precious children. She was 84 years 11 months and 6 days old at the time of her death.

Willie  was born on December 29, 1936 to the late Tom Johnson and Mary Garner Johnson in Rankin County Mississippi.  She was the fourth of their eight children.  She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Stevenson, three sisters (Curitisscence, Lena Mae and Annie Pearl) and two brothers (Tom Jr and Earl).

As a result of being raised in a Christian home, Willie  gave her life to the LORD and was baptized at a young age at Mt. Elam M. B. Church in Pearl, Mississippi.

She received her elementary education at Sweet Rest School in Pearl, Mississippi and went on to  attended Jim Hill High School in Jackson Mississippi. Years later she attended cosmetology school and passed the board exam to be licensed as a cosmetologist.

Willie  retired  from the Mississippi Highway Patrol Academy as the cafeteria supervisor after 25 years of loyal service.

Willie was married to her high school sweetheart Earnest Lee Hines, Sr. and to that union four amazing, beautiful, kind, intelligent and generous spirited children were born.  Sadly their marriage ended.  Later she was married to Eddie Stevenson.  He provided much love, joy and happiness in her life until his death.

Willie raised her children to love God and to rely on him as she had during her lifetime. She taught them to respect their elders, to tell the truth, the value of money, how to pay their bills on time, save some money and to live within their means.  She really loved her children.  She attended Cherry Grove Baptist Church, until her health began to fail.

Willie enjoyed engaging in activities with her family.  She especially loved her grandchildren and the icing on the cake were her great- grandchildren.  She liked cooking, baking, styling hair, sewing and traveling.  She was fortunate to travel to outside of the United States to Canada and Mexico during her lifetime. She was a financially smart, kind, fearless, strong, generous and loving person with a beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed by all those who know her.  Her favorite bible reading was Psalm 23.

She leaves to cherish her legacy four children:  Evelyn (Charles) Jacobs of Richmond, TX;  Alan Del Hines of Jackson, MS; Earnest Lee Hines, Jr. (Sharon) of Jackson, MS; and Deborah (Johnny) Ambrose of Jackson, MS; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  She also leaves two sisters/brother-in-laws: Berlean Roper,  Mary Jane (Birtnell) Denson and Morris O.
