Mrs. Ora Mae Harper Cook was born November 4th, 1935 in Jackson, Mississippi to Mary Etta Harper. She was the only child born to her mother. She was blessed to grow up with many that loved her, four aunts and six uncles, who were like siblings. At an early age, she professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at College Hill M.B. Church in Jackson, Mississippi. She later joined St. Matthews M.B. Church where she remained a faithful servant until her passing.

She graduated from Jim Hill, Class of 1954, and continued her education at Jackson State College, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education. She was married to her one and only true love, Houston Cook, until his passing in 2000. To their union, six children were born: Deborah Sue Cook Moncure, Houston Lee Cook III, Donald Earl Cook, Jacqueline Elaine Cook Brown, Doris Maria Cook and Helena Cook.

Ora was a lifelong educator where her passion was serving underprivileged children. She served as the Education and Daycare Director where she touched the lives of many young children, working in low-income areas, and made an impact on not only the children, but their parents also, until she retired.

Ora loved to sew, cook for her family, and travel; anytime there was somewhere to go she was the first to pack her bags! Her last trip, prior to the pandemic, was Mardi Gras 2019 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Laissez le bon temps rouler!

Ora made her transition to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021.

Her life will forever be cherished in the hearts of her surviving children, Houston of Woodbridge, VA; Donald (Rhunette) of Duluth, MN; Jacqueline (Kim) of Wylie, TX; Doris of Jackson, MS; and Helena of Wylie, TX; her grandchildren, Senora, Nasheeka, Demitrian, Natalie, Candice, Terrence, Carime, Donoral, Shavonne, Houston IV, Calvin, Jasmine, Emon, Siearra, Rachelle, and JaDonna; 34 1/2 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, friends and ones she considered her kids. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Houston Cook (August 12th, 2000), her mother, Mary Etta Hedge (November 17th, 1993), her daughter Deborah Sue Cook Moncure (April 11th, 2003) and her best friend, Mrs. Betty Holmes (August 11th, 2012).
