Mrs. Lela Mae Harris Lewis peacefully transitioned from this life and entered into the Arms of her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 5, at home.
QT, as she was affectionately know as to everyone was the third child born to L. C. Jackson Harris and Gennie Harris on January 11, 1939 in Jackson, Mississippi. Both parents preceded her in death, alone with her brother, “Nocky”.
QT was a member of New Strangers Home M. B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. C. F. Jordan. There she worked wherever to was asked, but she worked tirelessly with the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee. Working on this committee was a pleasure for her along with, Mary Mickel, Louisa Denson, Nancy Thompson, Alice Tarrio Young and Mother Terlena Daniels.
QT was a graduate of Lanier High School, where was also Miss Lanier.
Lela Mae Harris was united in holy matrimony to Joe Herbert Lewis on May 19, 1959 in Jackson, Mississippi. This union was blessed with one daughter, JoAnn. She worked with her husband at Joe’s Pharmacy and Jones Pharmacy.
QT will be remembered for her loving and warm smile, she met no strangers. She tried to make everyone feel loved and welcomed. She was thankful for all the blessings that were given to her by her heavenly Father. Whatever was thrown at her, she would handle it with everything she had.
QT leaves to cherish and honor her memories, one daughter, Jo Ann Jenkins (Bernard) of Jackson, MS; grandson, Corey Jenkins of Jackson, MS; nieces: Janie Green, Mandy LaShell Green of Jackson, MS; nephew, Xavier Green of Jackson, MS; a life long friend, Mary Mickel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
