Mrs. Ever Lean Mays was born on October 2, 1931 in the small town of Learned, MS. She was the youngest of six children born to the union of the late John Lincoln and Luella Vance.
As a child, Ever Lean had no formal musical training but developed a musical ear, and often sat on the rooftop of her childhood home and played the guitar with her brother Robert. Her natural talents shined through as she played her guitar and sang gospel songs and the blues. She often performed as special guest at church functions and family gatherings and relaxation.
Ever Lean accepted Christ at a young age where she attended Morning Star Baptist Church in Edwards, MS and later united with Hardy Grove Baptist Church of Jackson, MS. She united in holy matrimony to her loving husband, Franklin Henry Mays, Sr. on June 2, 1951 in Vicksburg, MS. To this union they had a blended family of twelve surviving children. Ever Lean was a devoted wife and mother. She taught her children the importance of having a relationship with God and to love each other unconditionally. Her family was her world and she never put herself before their needs. She was a virtuous woman to everyone who knew her.
Ever Lean transitioned into eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Luella Vance; her husband, Franklin Henry Mays, Sr; siblings, John Vance, Jr., Pearl Lee Ramsey, Johnnie Lee Vance, Willie B.
