Mrs. Arnetha Marie Huff Shoto was born on September 23, 1959, in Centreville, to the late Eula Mae Bonds-Huff and Lawrence Huff. She was the 8th, and final child to this union of all beautiful princesses. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eula Mae and Lawrence Huff; her mother-in-law, Shirley Shoto; her sister, Camille Barnes; her brothers-in-law: Jack Clayter and Tim Spicer; and her great-grandson, Xander Williams.
Nita, as she was affectionately called, was baptized at an early age at the family church, Bonds Chapel, then the family transitioned to Sweet Home located in Gloster, MS. At Sweet Home, Nita served in the choir and worked in the church administrative office.
Nita attended Amite County schools for elementary through high school, graduating from Amite County High in 1977. She was a dancing majorette for the Amite County Marching Band all four years she attended high school.
Nita married James Griffin in 1977. To this union three bouncing baby boys were born: Patrick, Jamie, and Christopher. On July 21, 2001, she entered holy matrimony with Richard Shoto, Jr., she gained three bonus children with this union: Emmanuel, Matthew and Jalysa. Nita and Richard recently celebrated their 20th Wedding Anniversary.
Nita attended Alcorn University and participated in the band as an illustrious Golden Girl, Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, MS graduating with her associate degree in business and entrepreneurship, She then attended Jackson State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Nita was an educator and bus driver for the Amite County School system while her boys were young, then she moved to Piney Woods, Mississippi. Nita was an educator and dorm parent at the Piney Woods School for over 20 years. After leaving Piney Woods, she began working for Hinds Community College for 5 years while earning her second college degree.
Her most recent job was at Brandon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as an administrative assistant until she departed this earth.
Nita was a devoted member of Mt. Elam church which she joined when she married Richard and served as a choir member, as well as, worked for the church as the church secretary until the Lord called her home. Her service to her church was an important part of her life.
Nita was fiery, feisty, and loved to sing and shop. She was very creative and turned that creativity into a business called Nita’s Creative Images where she completed all types of creative tasks for her clients to include personal home and business decor, (interior and exterior) and program designing. Many of her designs have been featured at several programs statewide.
Nita departed her earthly home on Saturday August 14, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving husband and three sons.
Nita adored her family and leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Richard Shoto; her sons: Patrick Griffin (Amanda), Jamie Griffin, and Christopher Griffin; her bonus children: Emmanuel Shoto (Lydia), Matthew Shoto, and Jalysa Shoto; her sisters: Bobbie Scales (Jimmy), Ada Clayter, Anne Hill (Marcus), Jean Moten (Alfred), Yvonne Spicer, and Evette Huff; ten grandchildren: Anasia, Amarianna, Janaiya, Akyra, Jadarius, Ayden, Ava, Christian, Malachi, Jaylen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and associates.
Mrs. Shoto's visitation will begin on Friday, August 20, 2021 with public viewing at 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, 886 North Farish Street, Jackson, Mississippi.
Funeral services for Mrs. Arnetha Shoto will be at Mt. Elam Baptist Church, 701 Old Whitfield Rd, Pearl, Mississippi at 12:00 noon with her final resting place being, Mt. Elam Cemetery.
